Professor Dr Kamila Ghazali

Professor Dr Kamila Ghazali is the Vice-Chancellor of the International University of Malaya-Wales.

Prof. Kamila took up the post in January 2022 after three years as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) at Universiti Malaya. She brings over 20 years of experience in senior and management roles, having held various positions at UM at both national and international level, including the Director of International & Corporate Relations and Deputy Dean of the Institute of Graduate Studies.

Since joining IUMW, Prof. Kamila has brought the University to a wider global platform, expanding collaborative partnerships with institutions in both Indonesia and Japan. She also led the University in its digital transformation, establishing more online programmes and microcredential courses, designed to better meet the needs of students, including non-traditional learners.

At Universiti Malaya, Prof. Kamila contributed to enhancing the institution’s global visibility, and the rise of its placing in the QS World University Rankings from #151 in 2015 to #59 in 2021. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she led the university to seamlessly convert all lessons to eLearning, digitalising all processes including alternative assessments in place of the traditional exams.

Prof. Kamila brings her expertise to a number of committees, including a former post on the International Policy Advisory Committee of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, providing guidance and leadership on future strategy and policy direction.

Her areas of academic expertise include critical discourse analysis and sociolinguistics with research on political discourse, media discourse, and ethnolinguistics where she delved into the language and culture of indigenous communities.
