Developing Learning “App”-titude with the Mobile Apps Training Programme
Digital skills have become more important as technology continues to play an increasingly significant role in education. To further develop the technological proficiency of students, the Faculty of Arts & Science and OrangeKloud teamed up to organise mobile application development training for IUMW’s Bachelor of Computer Science students.
OrangeKloud is a US-based cloud consulting company and part of the Faculty’s Industry Collaboration Engagement Programme. As part of this collaboration, OrangeKloud conducted e-MOBIQ training for IUMW students where they learned how to create their own mobile app without coding. The students followed a briefing and demonstration and then designed their very own mobile applications using the software.
From this training, students also developed other skills that are valuable for their personal development and future careers. These skills include:
- Technical skills. Firstly, students developed new tech skills such as database management and user interface design. Such technical abilities will enhance students’ employability, especially in the technology-driven career market.
- Problem-solving skills. Secondly, creating a mobile application requires students to find solutions related to function, design and user experience. Consequently, they can improve their critical and creative thinking as well as apply them in their future careers.
- Entrepreneurial skills. Thirdly, from this programme, students learned the process of planning a business including ideation, market research and marketing. Additionally, this will benefit the students who are interested in starting their own businesses.
This event is one of many by the Faculty to give students engaging learning experiences. Most importantly, it equips students with the skills and knowledge to navigate today’s tech-driven workforce.
