I’ve achieved a lot so far from my time at IUMW. When I decided to join the Accounting Club, I was hoping to get a role where I could gain experience and establish connections. I didn’t expect that I would end up on the high committee! As the secretary, the highlights are all the events my club has organised! We’ve collaborated with a lot of influential individuals and prestigious organisations.

I’ve also joined many competitions during my time so far. The Young CEO Challenge 2021 (YCC 2021) was the first competition I took part in during my degree. I ended up becoming the champion, which was surreal to me! I learned so much from the different modules given by the organisers, like analysing a business and planning strategies. Most importantly, I had fun with my teammates and made new friends with the organising committee! I was also part of the Virtual Business Challenge and just like YCC 2021, I learned a lot and made new friends.

For both competitions, I was also able to use what I have learned previously in my modules with IUMW! My lecturers were also very helpful in answering my questions when I had doubts.

My advice to those who’d like to expand their horizons is to not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and never give up. When in doubt, do not hesitate to ask questions! You will learn a lot from it. Build more connections and friends! Join more events! You don’t have to be the committee as just joining events you will learn a lot from it. Also, have some time to give your brain a rest once in a while, don’t overwork yourself until you’re burned out.

My dream like the majority of accounting graduates is to work in one of the Big 4 accounting firms! I am also planning to pursue my professional qualifications, most likely ICAEW.
