Education in the 21st century is about embracing digital technology. With technology constantly evolving, this is no easy task. Educators, in particular, have to keep up with not only the latest developments in their field but new teaching methods as we seek to equip future generations of Malaysians with technical, creative and communication skills.
It is therefore heartening to see IUMW striving to do just that through its truly multi-mode and blended programmes aimed at fostering a critical mindset to prepare students for an ever-changing market. Moving forward, IUMW will also be offering new specialisations to catalyse the Fourth Industrial Revolution as addressed in the Malaysia Education Blueprint for Higher Education 2015-2025.
Just as importantly, these programmes serve to equip students with people skills, which are just as important in today’s job market. The future of business and technology is collaborative, and learning how to work as a team – especially in a diverse, cross-cultural setting – is critical, whether you are in the public or private sector or intend to be your own boss.
We are proud to have you here at IUMW, and always remember – believe the unbelievable, dream the impossible and never take no for an answer.
TAN SRI TONY FERNANDES
Vice Chancellor Foreword
The International University of Malaya-Wales (IUMW) is a young university backed by a unique collaboration of two of the oldest but distinctive institutions in the world, the University of Malaya and the University of Wales in the United Kingdom.
IUMW leverages on the long and proud traditions of both distinguished education providers, with over 100 years of excellence. The strategic partnership allows us to build a better-connected university, allowing dual awards and recognitions.
It is from this strong intellectual foundation, traditions in learning and teaching that we grow, innovate, and shape relevant programmes to maximise our resources to benefit the students, their strengths, and their future.
We are deeply committed to the pursuit of excellence and relevance. We believe the University is a place where students have no limits towards intellectual exploration and discourse, and can exploit opportunities to make things happen. Whether this is in Arts, Business or Sciences the University wants to nurture its students’ imagination and innovation, so that they go beyond the conventions.
We believe that our unique selling point lies in our environment where students have the opportunity to experience enriching learning experiences, first-hand diversity, a curriculum that shapes individual character, a passion for learning, the rare opportunity to engage with local communities, and most importantly, our commitment to helping our students to graduate with the qualities to be ahead in an unpredictable environment.
