On March 16th, 2020, due to the sudden surge of COVID-19 cases, the Government of Malaysia announced a Restricted Movement Order (RMO) nationwide. This announcement will no doubt affect businesses, and one ought to know how to keep up in this kind of adversity.

International University of Malaya-Wales (IUMW) has been toying with the concept of digital e-learning since last year. One of their four faculties, Faculty of Communication, Arts & Media (FCAM), applied the OpenLearning system on all subjects offered under the young faculty.

Below are some of the reasons why e-learning is the way for the future:

It’s Mobile!
Everyone, whether part time students or working full time, can take advantage of web-based learning. It’s available anytime and can be accessed anywhere. Unlike traditional chalk-and-board classroom teaching methods, this mode has relatively quick delivery cycles. Not to mention it promotes active and independent learning.

Better Retention
Today’s learners prefer bite-sized, interactive content. They would rather watch a video or listen to a podcast than read through pages of “Introduction to Integrated Marketing”. E-learning allows academics to make content interactive and creative. The more engaging the content is, the better the students remember information.

Updated Content
One of the greatest benefits of learning online is that it makes sure that you are in synchronization with modern learners. New technologies and industry trends can be fused together, making the experience worthwhile.

Cheap
It’s well-know, e-learning is cheap and cost effective. Hence, it’s profitable.

It’s Green
Simply said: E-learning is paperless! It protects the environment (#savethetrees), you waste zero energy, and no emissions to ruin our precious Mother Earth.

So during these pressing times that have forced many organisations to reevaluate how they conduct their business, there are definitely many upsides to be had by going digital!
